Impact of Black Carbon in South-East Asia
Manager : Xavier Mari - M.I.O
Project participants : BUI Van Vuong (PhD ARTS-IRD). Historical deposition flux of Black Carbon and co-pollutants in Halong Bay, Vietnam
Partner establishments : IRD, USTH, IMER
Objectives
- determine the impact of black carbon on the biological carbon pump and its feedback on atmospheric CO2 concentration,
- determine the impact of black carbon on the transfer of contaminants to the marine food web,
- to improve inventories of black carbon emissions in South-East Asia and determine the contribution to the ocean, by setting up a regional network to measure the concentrations and characteristics of black carbon in the atmospheric, fluvial and marine compartments,
- developing an atmosphere-ocean modelling framework describing the climatic, biogeochemical and health impacts of black carbon.
