Organic molecules

Presentation

The Organic Research Unit focuses on the characterisation (identification and/or quantification) of organic molecules contained in environmental and experimental samples. These include molecules of natural origin such as lipids (sterols, isoprenoids, fatty acids) and sugars, as well as molecules of anthropogenic origin (various historical and emerging contaminants). Analyses are carried out using gas or liquid chromatography (GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, GC Q-TOF, LC Q-TOF).

The sample preparation techniques used in the organic division are diverse: filtration, freeze-drying, accelerated solvent extraction (ASE), solid phase extraction/purification (SPE). The matrices treated can be solid (sediments, plankton, soil or aerosols) or liquid (freshwater or seawater).

The division also measures total dissolved organic carbon (freshwater and seawater) using high-temperature catalytic oxidation (HTCO).
