Interreg NEXT MED call for proposals - Climate innovation and low-carbon transition

As part of the call for projects Interreg NEXT MED - Specific Objective 1.1With the aim of supporting technological innovation for the ecological transition and adaptation to climate change in the Mediterranean area, the OCEAN Institute is seeking to identify Marseille laboratories interested in participating or getting involved in a collaborative project.

This call focuses on accelerating the transfer and commercialisation of technological innovations linked to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improving climate resilience, and implementing low-carbon solutions with high potential for the region.

The scientific and technical themes potentially concerned include :

  • Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies
  • Hydrogen energy systems
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) solutions applied to climate adaptation
  • Advanced battery technologies
  • Observation and modelling of coastal and marine environmental systems
  • Monitoring tools (T, S, phytoplankton, 02, CO2, etc.), climate data processing and decision support tools

Disciplines that can be used :

  • Environmental and climate sciences
  • Coastal and basin modelling on a Mediterranean scale
  • Renewable energies and energy systems
  • Materials engineering, chemistry, electrochemistry
  • Computer science and AI
  • Oceanography, marine biology, remote sensing
  • Human and social sciences applied to the ecological transition (behaviour, governance, risk perception, etc.)

Potentially fundable equipment and tools :

  • Development or scale-up of prototypes or technological demonstrators (buoys, AUVs, gliders, saildrones)
  • Acquisition or improvement of R&D equipment for testing or monitoring
  • Open data platforms, collaborative research tools
  • Digital solutions for modelling or visualising climate scenarios
  • Technology transfer resources (patents, support, incubation, etc.)

If your laboratory is developing work or tools related to these themes, or if you would like to get involved in such an initiative, please inform the OCEAN Institute of your interest by 26 April 2025and specify the areas, skills or equipment that you would be able to mobilise.
