One of the missions of the French National Research Agency (ANR) is to stimulate cooperation between public and private research bodies. One of the ways it does this is through the "Industrial Chairs" programme, which is dedicated to partnership research. This programme is part of the "Economic impact of research and competitiveness" component of the ANR's Action Plan.
The Industrial Chairs programme has a threefold objective:
- Building and structuring collaborative scientific research projects in priority and strategic areas for the public and private players involved in the industrial chair, through a strong and lasting partnership.
- Enable internationally-renowned French and foreign lecturers and researchers, whether mobile or not, to work on an ambitious, innovative research programme with undeniable industrial significance.
- Providing training through research, by offering doctoral and post-doctoral students an approach to research work carried out with a long-term vision in academic research laboratories, combined with the experience of players in the business world.
This programme is open to all research themes, on subjects defined jointly by the parties concerned.
Funding will be granted for a maximum period of 48 months, with the ANR's contribution being matched by that of the companies (cash contribution paid to the host institution).
