National seminar on underwater noise in the Mediterranean

This second seminar, organised by the Ministry for the Sea (MMer), the Ministry for Ecological Transition (MTE), the French Biodiversity Office (OFB) and the University of Toulon, in partnership with the Préfecture maritime de la Méditerranée, will also host the Regional Activity Centre for Specially Protected Areas (RAC/SPA) set up in Tunisia by the contracting parties to the Barcelona Convention, the Secretariat of the Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area (ACCOBAMS) and the Scientific and Technical Committee of the Pelagos Agreement.

It is dedicated to underwater noise in the Mediterranean and as such has been approved by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE). The issues at stake for the Mediterranean, the nature of the emissions and the main impacts will be presented, as well as a review of the regulations, the steps taken by the States and the EU and the cooperation projects between institutions at Mediterranean level.

A large part of the exhibition will be devoted to solutions and innovations of all kinds to reduce noise emissions and their impact on marine animals and the economic activities that potentially depend on them.

The seminar will conclude with an interactive session involving volunteer participants.

This seminar is free of charge, subject to availability. It will be offered face-to-face and as a webinar.
