Radioactivity
Manager : Marc Garel
The Radioactivity Department provides researchers with rooms for handling radioelements and a waste storage area subject to authorisation from the ASN (French Nuclear Safety Authority).
The experimenters work with the classic isotopes used to measure the uptake of biogenic elements (14C for primary production, 33P for phosphate uptake, 32Si for silicic acid uptake and 3H for bacterial production).
If required, other isotopes such as 35S and 55Fe can be included in the list of radioelements.
Access is only authorised after initial training in radiation protection and after initiating medical follow-up with the preventive medicine department. Because of these constraints, this platform is only accessible to MIO researchers.
