The BIOCONTAM International Summer School on Marine Food Webs and Biological Mechanisms for the Transfer of Contaminants was held in Marseilles from 17 at 21 June 2024. The MIO was the main organiser, with financial support from the ANR (JCJC CONTAMPUMP project) and Institut Océan.
The aim of the BIOCONTAM international summer school was to develop new approaches to cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary training in environmental issues, in order to develop new knowledge and skills among students and young researchers. A five-day programme of practical work and theoretical courses was offered free of charge to students and young researchers. The programme included the study of the taxonomy of certain groups of pelagic and benthic marine organisms, tools and indicators for studying food webs and the processes by which contaminants are transferred from primary producers to predators, as well as examples of the results of research programmes in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea with management applications.
The programme for Wednesday 19 June was held in conjunction with the Interdisciplinary Summer School on "Plastics and Pollutants at Sea: From Knowledge to Action", which took place the same week.
