This new "Signature 500 kHz 5-beam" ADCP, obtained as part of the A*Midex Blanc HOPE-VV project (PI A. Petrenko), will shortly be sent to New Caledonia to be deployed on a mooring off Noumea for two years.
At the centre of a square of moorings with four conventional ADCPs (with 4 beams) measuring ocean speeds, the aim of this 5-beam ADCP is to obtain a time series not only of horizontal speeds, but also of vertical speed with good accuracy despite the fact that the latter is generally much lower than the horizontal speeds.
