From 15 February 2024 to 30 November 2024
The Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean (POGO) will be offering a number of fellowship opportunities on board research vessels during 2024. This programme is designed to promote training and capacity building for the development of a global ocean observing system.
Specific calls are normally launched at least six months before the start of the cruise, to allow time to review a large number of applications, interview shortlisted candidates and allow the successful candidate to put the necessary paperwork in order, e.g. visas, travel documents and essential medical/training certifications.
However, the training programme on board POGO vessels is sometimes offered an available berth at very short notice.
To make the most of these opportunities, each year the POGO secretariat launches calls for applications open to early-career scientists, technicians, postgraduate students (PhD or MSc) and post-doctoral fellows who are nationals of developing countries or countries with economies in transition and who are involved in oceanographic work in centres in these countries.
The application form includes questions about the applicant's specific training interests, including geographical areas and research/training topics. It also asks whether the applicant is available to travel in 2024. For this last point, candidates are asked to take into account any dates on which they may have prior commitments.
